A piece of Ethiopia in Amsterdam

On the first trip to Holland a colleague of mine recommended us a small restaurant in Amsterdam. It is not far from the dock, around 10-15 minutes walk. The area is nice and quiet. The restaurant is relatively small (5-6 tables) and run by two people. The decorations are nice (wall posters with Africa themes actually from some local materials), the table napkins, etc. all take you back to Africa. I’ve never been in Africa so far, however it seemed authentic. The waiter is a nice young man who speaks very good English. He is very easy to talk to and one can ask questions about the food, the restaurant, etc. We ordered lamb with a mixture of vegetables and of course the big pancake that is used to wrap the food in. Apparently one should use his bare hands to eat it, but if you’re not comfortable with that you can ask for a fork and knife. The food was tasty and such a wonderful mixture of ingredients. Also a good amount of spiciness which we loved.

You can also get a gluten free option instead of the pancake. You can order rice, and you’ll get an amazing mixture of wild rice with peas, very aromatic; one of the best rice that you can get …

And for cat lovers … the neighbors’ cat likes to spend time in the restaurant and is extremely friendly.

I recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to get a taste of Ethiopia in Amsterdam.

Price range is affordable (15-20 EUR per person).

Reteta simpla cu ficatei

Aceasta reteta este o adaptare a retetei oferite de mongoliankitchen.com la aceasta pagina 

Ingrediente:

 1 Pachet de ficatei proaspeti (~400g)
 1 lingurita de usturoi pisat
 1/2 lingurita de coriandru macinat
 1/2 lingurita de chimion macinat
 1/2 lingurita de scortisoara
 1 chili proaspat
 1 rosie taiata in cuburi
 1,5 linguri de otet balsamico
 2 linguri de ulei de masline
 Sare si piper dupa gust

Eventual se mai pot adauga si alte legume cum ar fi: ceapa sau ardei. In acest caz ceapa trebuie calita un pic inainte
Retea este foarte simplu de facut. Se amesteca toate ingredientele intr-o tigaie sau wok. Acoperiti tigaia cu un capac si gatiti la un foc mediu pentru 10 minute pana cand ficateii de pui sunt gata.
Apoi lasati luati capacul si gatiti pe foc mare pentru inca 5 minute, pana cand ficateii sunt caramelizati pe exterior. In acest moment ar trebui sa verificati daca mancarea este condimentata suficient.

La sfarsit puteti adauga putin suc de lamaie verde.

Se poate servi cu o salata de rosii, castraveti si branza feta.
